Community Edition

Use Core Engine under GPLv3 for open-source projects. Run Serve Engine under AGPLv3 when complying with network source disclosure, and evaluate Agent Studio free of charge for non-production use under BSL 1.1.

Scenario guide

Which tier matches your architecture?

You never need to buy separate licenses just to train a model in Core Engine and serve it in Serve Engine. Pick the tier that matches where your code runs and who receives it:

Your Use Case & Architecture Open Source / BSL Route ($0) Recommended Commercial Tier
1. Internal in-process JVM service only
(e.g., HFT, AdTech bidding, or internal batch scoring; never distributed to third parties, no Serve Engine)
Permitted under GPLv3. Running Core Engine internally without distributing binaries does not trigger GPLv3 source disclosure. Production Runtime ($12,000/yr) or OEM ($25,000 one-time) — chosen when corporate compliance requires a non-GPL SBOM license, 12-month IP indemnification, Critical CVE SLAs, and bundled Agent Studio seats.
2. Serving ONNX, Vision, or Local LLMs/SLMs over a network
(Deploying smile-serve containers for internal or customer-facing APIs)
AGPLv3 §13 requires offering the Corresponding Source of the service to network users. Production Runtime ($12,000/yr). Removes AGPLv3 §13 network source disclosure for up to 4 production nodes (+$250/node/mo above 4) and includes 5 Agent Studio seats.
3. End-to-end SMILE ML + Serving
(Building/updating .sml models with Core Engine & Agent Studio and serving them on Serve Engine)
Subject to AGPLv3 §13 on the serving nodes and BSL 1.1 non-production limits on Agent Studio. Production Runtime ($12,000/yr). One subscription covers both internal Core Engine model training, Serve Engine production nodes, and 5 commercial Agent Studio seats.
4. Shipping a proprietary product, SDK, appliance, or client binary
(Distributing SMILE object code to external customers)
Requires releasing your entire application's source code under GPLv3. OEM & Embedded Distribution ($25,000 one-time). Perpetual license for 1 Application line (up to 10 devs) + Year 1 Maintenance & 10 Studio seats. Optional 20% ($5,000/yr) Maintenance renewal.
5. Distributed branch, POS, ATM, or vehicle edge fleets
(100 to 5,000+ autonomous edge gateways with local TreeSHAP / KernelSHAP & hot-reload)
Subject to GPLv3 conveyance and AGPLv3 §13 network rules on every deployed gateway. Enterprise & Edge Fleet (From $50,000/yr). Volume per-node edge runtime licensing ($50 down to $10/node/mo), site-wide OEM rights, 25 Studio seats, and an optional $15k 30-day Pilot.
6. Standalone Agent Studio commercial team
(Using Studio's coding & AutoML agents in production without Serve or Core)
Free under BSL 1.1 for personal, academic, and non-production evaluation. Converts to AGPLv3 after 4 years. Agent Studio Team ($95/seat/mo or $995/seat/yr). Included free with Runtime (5 seats), OEM (10 seats), & Enterprise (25 seats), or available standalone (5-seat minimum).
